About the Event

Last September, the Editorial Freelancers Association celebrated 55 years of editorial excellence with our first-ever virtual conference. We’re back for 2026 – this time on a state-of-the-art virtual conference platform optimized for a seamless experience navigating sessions and networking with other freelancers.

This year’s theme, “Better Together: Building Sustainable Freelance Careers Through Strong Community,” homes in on our commitment to helping you grow in your expertise and identify and take advantage of new opportunities in your business. The conference will be preceded by a day of virtual meet-ups and networking sessions designed to support freelancers at all stages of their careers.

Programming tracks will include:

  • Business of Freelancing (e.g. - marketing, planning for retirement, contracts).
  • Tricks of the Trade (e.g. - finding success as a freelance writer, editing sensitive content)
  • Adding to skills to your editing toolbox (e.g. - how to be a better developmental editor, working alongside technology to enhance your human touch)
  • Sharpening your writing pencil (e.g. - writing for newsletters, starting your first Substack)

Here’s what some 2025 attendees had to say:

“I've been freelancing for 10 years, but I learned plenty during the conference and got lots of new ideas.”

“I really enjoyed the conference and learned a lot from all the sessions I attended live. It felt less intimidating/overwhelming and more friendly/intimate than other, larger virtual conferences.”

“Topics were right on and what I needed.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the conference; the presenters were excellent and the topics were relevant.”

“You guys did such a good job offering inclusive topics on race and ableism, conversations with editors of color. The presenters and leaders of EFA were diverse and it was much appreciated.”
